Seavana Resort, on Koh Mak’s Ao Suan yai beach, is the island’s newest luxury resort.

If you need a place to stay then for a bit of 4 star luxury, I recommend Seavana Resort, which is the upmarket annex of the longstanding Koh Mak Resort. They may share the same beach, but that’s where the similarities end. Seavana offers just 22 spacious, brand new rooms and a friendly, efficient and informal atmosphere. This makes it ideal for couples who want to get away from it all.

The bungalows are all far larger than most, in fact just the bathroom is larger than most hotel bathrooms. You definitely won’t feel cramped, the beachfront villas have two floors – the upper floor being an open air terrace and covered seating area. This is along with the bedroom, bathroom and shady sun loungers downstairs.

The resort’s restaurant serves up Thai and western food and the pool bar lays on some excellent Happy hour cocktails. Staff are very personable without ever being intrusive. You probably won’t notice them but they are around when you need them. Free bicycles and kayaks are available for guests to use and the usual trips, tours and boat tickets can all be booked on site. There’s also a massage and spa if you need extra relaxation.

Overall, the ideal combination of location, friendly service and great value accommodation – which is reflected in the overwhelmingly positive reviews guests give the resort. Highly Recommended resort on Koh Maak.

Islanda Resort Koh Mak

Islanda Resort Koh Mak is located adjacent to Thaidaho Vista on a ridge overlooking Ao Suan Yai beach, Ko Mak.

It’s a great spot with some of the best views on the island. Islanda is a new boutique resort, only completed in 2012, and as such it’s 19 modern rooms offer everything you need in the way of home comforts.

Most rooms have sea views, however the cheaper ones are below pool level so have very little view at all, apart from concrete. It’s a strange design feature. The hotel block is on one side of the infinity edge pool and the restaurant on the other.

Islanda Resort is a good option for people wanting more in the way of luxury than the nearby Thaidaho Vista and also happy to stay off the beach. The beach is only a few minutes walk away though and the resort has a free golf cart service for guests.

If you are looking at the rooms with the best views, it may also be worth comparing prices at Seavana Resort, on the beachfront nearby, which has a similar standard of boutique accommodation with larger bungalows for around the same price.

Bamboo Hideaway

Located on the beautiful island of Koh Mak, Bamboo Hideaway is a cosy, boutique style resort built in an aging rubber tree plantation using natural materials. The owners endeavour to provide a feeling of peace and tranquility for guests looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The small resort comprises just eight bungalows. These are elevated and accessible by a walkway from the restaurant and pool area, which weaves its way through the trees to the accommodation. The spacious bungalows have been designed to give you all the luxuries of a more traditional resort but with the advantage and back-to-nature ambiance that only natural materials can give.

Bamboo Hideaway is only less than 5 minutes walk from the nearest beach, but the owner’s also provide guests with free transportation to any beach on the island. So you can either enjoy your time relaxing by the pool and enjoying the panoramic sea views it offers, or head off to a different beach every day. In the evening guests are invited to unwind and socialise in the cosy Thai/Italian restaurant where the owners and staff prepare home cooked meals that will round off your day in style.
