Koh Mak Resort

Koh Mak Resort stretches along a kilometer of beachfront.  Accommodation ranges from the older, original fan and AC bungalows to new super modern flat roofed suites that offer a stark contrast to the natural beauty surrounding them – yet don’t look out of place.  Most guests arrive at the resort’s private pier where boats from Koh Chang and the mainland drop passengers.  At the end of the pier you’ll see a beach bar and one of the resort’s restaurants but from reception to your room may involve a 5 minute walk as all bungalows stretch along the beachfront and none are more than a stone’s throw from the sand. Couples wanting to splash out might prefer the privacy of the Beachfront and Seaview Suites. The luxury suites all have outdoor showers which may not suit all guests, especially as they aren’t walled – but are totally hidden from view in the  suite’s small garden area.

Prices at the resort have risen as the quality of the rooms has shot up over the past 3 or 4 years, anyone with a 2006 guidebook will be shocked at current prices but will be equally surprised to find the older run down bungalows long gone.  But with the addition of new luxury suites and large family bungalows comes a new beachfront pool and bar ‘Ocean Place’ which is a great spot to laze away the days plus new restaurants and a laid back beach bar.

Because of the size of the resort the bungalows and suites are well spaced apart and the resort has an intimate feel combined with comfort, tranquility and privacy. All bungalows are very well accommodating and built with natural wood mixed strong concrete, and each overlooks panorama of sea, sand and sun with little personal touches.  Families will find the Anyamanee houses with two bedrooms ideal and they are also pretty close to the reception and restaurant.

As a sidenote, the resort is owned by a local family, the head of which is the Governor of the island.  His son studied architecture and is the driving force behind the re-invention of the aging, rather rundown resort to a unique, modern eco-friendly venture.

All the usual services are on offer from kayak and motorbike rental to Karaoke, library, internet access and only Post Office on the island.

The Koh-Mak.com office is also located in Koh Mak Resort, look straight ahead when you walk along the pier and you’ll find us 20 metres from the end.  Ball, or his wife Oy, will be here to help with any travel related information that you might need.
